Local doctors selected as Walleye, Bullfrogs chiropractors

Certified Chiropractic Sports Physicians Mickey E. Frame and Michael L. Bentley have been selected to serve as the official chiropractic physicians for Toledo’s newest professional sports teams: the Toledo Walleye and the Toledo Bullfrogs.

The Toledo Walleye are a professional ice hockey team and members of the North Division of the American Conference of the ECHL. The team will be affiliated with the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League and the Grand Rapids Griffins and Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League starting with the 2009-10 season.

The Toledo Bullfrogs are a professional arena football team and will begin play in the af2 (arenafootball2) in the Spring of 2010.

Both Dr. Frame and Dr. Bentley have been involved for years with local sports organizations and are excited to assist in helping athletes from the Walleye and Bullfrogs be their competitive best.

“Most professional sports teams utilize chiropractors to help balance the treatment their athletes receive,” said Dr. Bentley. “The benefits of chiropractic care include faster recovery times, less medication and comprehensive treatment of athletic injuries. We want our athletes to receive the best and most effective care so they can be at the top of their game.”

“We work with the entire team staff, including doctors and trainers to take into consideration every aspect of an athlete’s treatment protocol,” said Dr. Frame. “As chiropractic physicians, we work to help injuries without excessive use of medicine to treat problems instead of mask them. That way, there is less risk of re-injury or long-term layoff from competition.”

“We selected Dr. Bentley and Dr. Frame based on their experience and their commitment to this community,” said Todd Yunker, director of Corporate Partnership Development, for the Walleye/Bullfrogs franchise. “We want the best care for our athletes and comprehensive chiropractic care is one component to a healthier, more competitive team.”

Dr. Frame, of Frame Family Wellness Center, is a certified chiropractic sports physician and recently received certification to practice Manipulation Under Anesthesia. He has been practicing for 20 years and currently serves as the official chiropractor for the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic LPGA golf tournament. His office is located in the National City Bank Building in Toledo near the Westfield Franklin Park Mall. He is a resident of Sylvania Township.

Dr. Bentley has been practicing for 20 years and is a certified chiropractic sports physician, who currently practices dual professions as a chiropractor and an attorney. Bentley Chiropractic, Inc. is located in Maumee near the corner of Anthony Wayne Trail and Conant Street. He is a resident of Maumee.

“It’s exciting to be a part of what will become a new Toledo tradition,” said Dr. Bentley. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of the Bullfrogs and Walleye franchise.”

“We hope the collaboration of health professionals dedicated to keeping both teams healthy and strong will benefit Toledo in more ways than just wins and losses,” said Dr. Frame. “We are proud to be part of the continued effort to make Toledo a great place to live and work.”

Official Chiropractor for the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic

While the ladies of the LPGA tour vied for the championship at the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic, Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician Dr. Mickey E. Frame worked behind the scenes to help make sure the competitors were at the top of their game.

Dr. Frame, official chiropractor for the Jamie Farr, offered a variety of wellness services to the golfers—treating them before or after their competitions much like he does as an official chiropractor for the Toledo Walleye hockey players.

Chiropractic care is a non-medicinal approach to wellness that focuses on the alignment of joints, bones and muscles, as well as the proper function of major body systems,” said Dr. Frame. “With any high-level athletes, no matter what the sport, wear and tear is inevitable and we have treatments and rehabilitation services that help improve these conditions.”

Dr. Frame has been committed to promoting the health and well being of his patients for more than 20 years. His specialty allows him to treat sports-specific injuries for athletes ranging from elementary school to the elderly.

“Working with the athletes of the LPGA tour is especially rewarding to me,” said Dr. Frame, who was absent for several years from the Classic due to a motorcycle accident that nearly took his life. “I have been back as the official chiropractor for three years now and it reminds me that helping people get through the pain and back to their chosen sport is what I’ve always wanted to do.”

Dr. Frame has been involved with several teams, from the Toledo Walleye to high school athletics. The goal is always the same: treat the problem instead of masking the symptoms.

“Too many people are taking prescribed medications instead of really addressing the issues that cause the pain,” said Dr. Frame. “While medication has its place, there are also many alternative therapies that not only help relieve pain, but address the cause, whether it be reduced mobility, emotional stress or even diet.”

Athletes, even young ones, can benefit from chiropractic care because of the whole-person approach it offers.

“When a person tells me they play volleyball and their rotator cuff hurts, certain medications can reduce that pain for them,” said Dr. Frame. “But if you mask the pain instead of addressing it, you never get to the bottom of it. Young athletes especially can pay for that several years down the road.”

Dr. Frame offers chiropractic care services such as decompression therapy, acupuncture, cold laser therapy, WAVE Whole-Body Advanced Vibration Therapy (increases circulation, and flexibility),manipulation under anesthesia, and SpiderTech taping (assists with restoration of normal muscle activation and function) as options for athletes, as well as anyone looking to improve their performance or reduce pain.

“We say, ‘go where the pros go,’ because many professional athletes recognize the benefits of chiropractic care,” said Dr. Frame. “I would welcome anyone who has pain, decreased mobility, range-of-motion, or chronic injury issues to come in and see what chiropractic care can offer.”

Dr. Mickey Asks some important questions of interest to Toledo residents - Chiropractor Toledo Dr. Mickey Asks...

How do you know when you're healthy?
Ask most Toledo residents this simple question and you're likely to hear, "When you feel good" or "When you're at your proper weight for your height" or "When you have lots of energy and vitality." Great answers. But our chiropractic patients know that true health is when your body is working as it was designed. True health is how you function, not how you feel.
Why are some people allergic to pollen and others aren't?
It's not the pollen. Chiropractors know that if it were, everyone would be allergic to pollen, nuts and pet dander. But that's not the case. It's the person, not the pollen! If you live in Toledo and your stress levels are high, then each year the grass, the trees or the weeds put your nervous system over the top. Many report that chiropractic care helps reduce the frequency and severity of their allergic response.
